Love is presented as the Nature of God (1 John 4:8,16), and in the case of the actions of the converted person, it is love to God (I John 5:2), and love to our fellowmen (Romans 13:8-10). Both love to God and love to our fellowmen are presented in the Bible as “keeping the Commandments of God.” So having love does not replace obedience
to God’s Law; it is obedience to God’s Law. In the very Ten Commandments on the tables of stone, we are told that to love God is to keep Hiscommandments (Exodus 20:6).
In Romans 13:8-10 we are told that loving our fellowmen is keeping the whole of
God’s Ten Commandments. However, in 1 John 5:1-3, we are told that when the
born again Christian is a believer, he loves God and his fellowmen, and this is the same as keeping the law of God. In conclusion, we need to note that if a Gospel is the real true message of salvation, a church that holds to it must never make Grace or Love replace obedience to God’s Ten Commandments, Grace and Love must bring genuine and non-hypocritical obedience to God’s Law.
Amen.
