Please ponder on the texts here written, Rom.6:1-2
" What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?"
The reason Paul puts forward the question of continuing in sin that grace may be abound in the first place is because when the person was alive to sin grace abounded to them and made them dead to sin, so the the question is asked in the realm of thought that since sin caused grace to abound to us should we then continue in sin that grace would continue to abound. But Paul answers the question, "God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?"
So Rom.6:1-2 shows that when grace abound to us we do not continue in sin because we have been made dead to sin BY GRACE, that we live no longer therein.
The only way a person could be dead to sin is by being born again which is also to be justified by faith. See Rom.6:5-6
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead (dead to sin) is justified or freed from sin. The word freed in the Greek. is dikaioo which is generally translated JUSTIFIED. Thus I have replaced the word freed with the word justified.
So death to sin that we live no longer therein occurs when one is justified or freed from sin which is effected by the grace of God that abounds to us.
Take note my dear facebook friends, in studying this grace empowering series you would have seen the following to be true concerning grace:
Titus 2:11-14
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Be ready by careful study my facebook friends; Maranatha for our Lord soon come. Amen
