1. The Sinfreeness we need are explained in the following ways:
a. Created Sinfreeness.
b. Maintained Sinfreeness.
c. All-Times Sinfreeness.
d. Restored Sinfreeness.
Created Sinfreeness
2. Created Sinfreeness: This is being created a new creation by God, one that makes the man sinfree. He is thus created into a sinfree person by the gift of sinfreeness from God
3. Sinfreeness is a demand by God, He demands instant sinfreeness. Isa. 1:16-18; Jn. 8:11; Jn. 5:14.
[16] Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
[17] Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
[18] Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Isa. 1:16-18.
[11] She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. Jn. 8:11.
[14] Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. Jn. 5:14.
4. This is so because God Himself can indeed make a person sinfree. Isa 6:5-7; 1 Jn. 3:5.
[5] Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
[6] Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
[7] And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. Isa. 6:5-7.
[5] And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 1 Jn. 3:5.
5. In fact, the Plan of Salvation which is Jesus’ salvifiv identity is to separate man away from sin. Matt. 1:21; Tit. 2:11-14.
[21] And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matt. 1:21.
[11] For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
[12] Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
[13] Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
[14] Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Tit. 2:11-14.
6. This means that sinfreeness is not an elusive experience that Christians are to strive toward or struggle for during all their lifetime, to attempt to reach. Sinfreeness is a gift of God to the penitent sinner. 1 Jn. 5:18; 1 Jn. 1:7, 9.
[18] We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. 1 Jn. 5:18.
[7] But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
[9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 Jn. 1:7,9.
7. When God creates the man in Christ, as a new creation, all old things (things of a sinful character) are passed away, and all things are new and are of God, thus are sinfree. 2 Cor. 5:17-18.
[17] Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
[18] And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 2 Cor. 5:17-18.
8. The repentant man undergoes a new birth (which is being created anew), and this makes him in fact sinfree. 1 Jn. 3:9; 1 Jn. 5:18.
[9] Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 Jn. 3:9.
[18] We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. 1 Jn. 5:18.
9. The old man is the sinful ideas; it is the idol-values. Eze. 14:3.
[3] Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by them? Eze. 14:3.
10. The old man is crucified with Christ so that the “body of sin” (the sinful passions) is inactivated. Rom. 6:6, 7.
[6] Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
[7] For he that is dead is freed from sin. Rom. 6:6-7.
11. The following points are what really happen:
a. The idol-values are removed or non-imputed to the penitent man. Eze. 36:25.
[25] Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. Eze. 36:25.
b. Christ and the Righteousness of God dwells in the person. (Eph. 3:17; Rom. 3:22).
[17] That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, Eph. 3:17.
[22] Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: Rom. 3:22.
c. This Righteousness is God Himself, and is a gift to the man. Thus the man is given sinfreeness as a gift. (Jer. 23:5-6; Rom. 5:17).
[5] Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
[6] In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE Lord OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jer. 23:5-6.
[17] For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Rom. 5:17.
d. Sins are broken off by Righteousness which is the Righteousness apart from the Law; this is the Righteousness of God. Thus the gift of Righteousness is the gift of Sinfreeness. (Dan. 4:27; Rom. 3:21-22).
[27] Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity. Dan. 4:27.
[21] But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
[22] Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: Rom. 3:21-22.
e. Furthermore, since man is a servant of sin, when the Son of Man makes him free indeed, it has to be away from sin; and this means that Jesus makes or creates the man sinfree. Jn. 8:34, 32, 36.
[34] Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
[32] And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
[36] If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Jn. 8:34, 32, 36.
f. Not only is the idol-values gone, but the man is at that very time made obedient to the Law of God by Faith and Righteousness in him. Eze. 36:25-27; Rom. 3:30-31.
[25] Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
[26] A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
[27] And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. Eze. 36:25-27.
[30] Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
[31] Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. Rom. 3:30-31.
g. Thus the man is made to cease from the act of sinning. 1 Pet. 4:1.
[1] Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 1 Pet. 4:1.
12. In a summary, Created Sinfreeness is the following points:
a. The removal of idol-values by God.
b. The gift of Christ and God to indwell the person.
c. And by this the person is made to cease from acts of sinning, and thus obey God’s Law.
Maintained Sinfreeness
13. Maintained Sinfreeness: This is the maintenance of the sinfreeness
14. Even though sinfreeness is given as a gift of God, we must abide in God if we are to keep or maintain it.
16. We should also we may potentially think we can go back into. Rom. 6:12.
[12] Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Rom. 6:12.
17. We need to hide the word of God in our hearts/minds that we might not sin against God. Ps. 119:9, 11.
[9] Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
[11] Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Ps. 119:9, 11.
18. We must also yield our members as instruments to do the righteousness of the Law. Rom. 6:13.
[13] Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Rom. 6:13.
19. In this work of maintaining sinfreeness we must understand that it is not God alone, but God and man that works. Thus maintained sinfreeness is synergistic. Phil. 2:12-13.
[12] Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
[13] For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Phil. 2:12-13.
20. This Maintained Sinfreeness is a work of being sanctified by Faith. Acts. 26:18.
[18] To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Acts. 26:18.
21. The things that we do under sanctification are to maintain Faith and Righteousness in us. (1 Jn. 4:13; 2 Cor. 4:13; Jer. 23:5-6).
[13] Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. 1 Jn. 4:13.
[13] We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; 2 Cor. 4:13.
Jer. 23:5-6.
22. We are told that we are God’s workmanship created unto doing good works that God wanted us to do. Eph. 2:10.
[10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Eph. 2:10.
23. Under Maintained Sinfreeness what really happens is:
a. We abide in the truths of Christ to keep ourselves from falling into sin. 1 Jn. 3:6, 24.
[6] Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
[24] And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. 1 Jn. 3:6, 24.
b. We look at our old sins, analysing them in the light of the Faith of Jesus Christ. (Rom. 12:2; Rom. 6:17; Gal. 5:24).
[2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Rom. 12:2.
[17] But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Rom. 6:17.
[24] And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Gal. 5:24.
c. We are to thus deny these sins (which since conversion we are not practicing) by Faith against temptation. (2 Cor. 12:9; Heb. 2:18; 1 Jn. 5:4).
[9] And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Cor. 12:9.
[18] For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Heb. 2:18.
[4] For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 1 Jn. 5:4.
d. We are to always choose Faith and Righteousness against sin; this is in fact living and overcoming by Faith. (Rom. 10:8-11; Rom. 3:5).
[8] But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
[9] That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
[10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
[11] For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Rom. 10:8-11.
[5] But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man) Rom. 3:5.
e. We are to do the Law of God by Faith. Rom. 3:31; Jam. 2:22.
[31] Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. Rom. 3:31.
[22] Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? Jam. 2:22.
f. We must also resist the devil (that is, his temptations) by Faith. 1 Pet. 5:8-9; (Jam. 4:7; Heb. 10:38).
[8] Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
[9] Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 1 Pet. 5:8-9.
[7] Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Jam. 4:7.
[38] Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. Heb. 10:38.
24. In a summary, Maintained Sinfreeness is the following points:
a. Abide in the truths or Faith of Jesus Christ.
b. Analyse and reject our old sins with Faith, against being tempted by them.
c. We must do the Law of God by Faith.
d. We must resist the devil (his temptations) by Faith.
e. Our obedience must be fulfilled as a habit.
All-Times Sinfreeness
25. All-Times Sinfreeness: This is the same maintained sinfreeness that is exercised, but it is here identified as remaining now without any break in its time duration, as the man has conquered all sins, and any circumstances that may cause him to fall into sin. This is the goal of true Christianity; it replaces what we know as punctuated Sinfreeness.
26. Under maintained sinfreeness we are to sin not, yet if we do fall back into sin, we have an Advocate to help us. 1 Jn. 2:1.
[1] My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 1 Jn. 2:1.
27. The point of All-Times Sinfreeness is to deal with the occasional falling into sin and being restored again to sinfreeness. This is what usually happens, and we call it Punctuated Sinfreeness, because we are sinfree only at various times.
28. To achieve sinfreeness at all times we must abide in Christ at all times. 1 Jn. 3:6.
[6] Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. 1 Jn. 3:6.
29. This is to ensure the seed of the word of God remains in man without a break. (1 Jn. 3:9; Lk. 8:11); 1 Jn. 2:14.
[9] Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 Jn. 3:9.
[11] Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Lk. 8:11.
[14] I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. 1 Jn. 2:14.
30. God is indeed able to keep us from falling into sin. Jude 24.
[24] Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, Jude 24.
31. But what is necessary is keeping in the Faith of Christ and in obedience to the Law of God. (1 Jn. 5:4; Jam. 2:8, 18).
[4] For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 1 Jn. 5:4.
[8] If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
[18] Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Jam. 2:8, 18.
32. The struggle we face is not against sin within, but to keep infirmities from causing us to sin. (Heb. 4:15; Heb. 12:1).
[15] For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Heb. 4:15.
[12] Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Heb. 12:1.
33. This is the struggle to achieve All-Times Sinfreeness. Heb. 12:4, 11.
[4] Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
[11] Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Heb. 12:4, 11.
34. The goal of Christianity is to achieve All-Times Sinfreeness. (Heb. 10:39; Heb. 9:28).
[39] But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. Heb. 10:39.
[28] So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. Heb. 9:28.
35. In a summary, All-Times Sinfreeness is the following points:
a. Learning to abide in Faith and obedience without a break in time.
b. Ensuring the word of God is hid in the mind to prevent falling into sin.
c. Making sure that our subjective infirmities does not cause us to fall into sin.
Restored Sinfreeness
36. Restored Sinfreeness: This is the same Created Sinfreeness being restored to the man who fell back into sin.
37. This is not a type of sinfreeness; it is the restoring of a person who fell from sinfreeness into sin, back into Created Sinfreeness. Gal. 6:1; Jam. 5:19-20.
[6] Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Gal. 6:1.
[19] Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
[20] Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. Jam. 5:19-20.
38. Christ our Advocate is all too willing to help restore us if we fall back into sin. (1 Jn. 2:1; Heb. 2:17-18).
[1] My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 1 Jn. 2:1.
[17] Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
[18] For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Heb. 2:17-18.
39. It is only the unpardonable sin, the blasphemy or rejection of the Holy Spirit, that one cannot be restored from or forgiven. Mk. 3:28-29; Matt. 12:31-32.
[28] Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
[29] But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: Mk. 3:28-29.
[31] Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
[32] And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Matt. 12:31-32.
40. Thus we can pray for the restoration of anyone who has committed the sin that is not unto death. 1 Jn. 5:16.
[16] If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. 1 Jn. 5:16.
41. Even apostasy can be dealt with and a person can be restored to sinfreeness if the apostasy is not too far gone into the unpardonable sin and ripened. Rev. 2:5; Heb. 6:4-6.
[5] Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. Rev. 2:5.
[4] For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
[5] And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
[6] If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. Heb. 6:4-6.
Conclusion
42. Thus sinfreeness is a gift from God to the truly penitent, creating in man the ideals and condition of sinfreeness, which he must maintain by co-operative communion with God, through Faith, partaking of the Truth and Righteousness of God, and being thus motivated in obedience to the Law of God resisting sin. This must lead the man to so deal with the devil’s temptations, and his own infirmities so that he reaches a state where he never falls back into sin again but lives all times in sinfreeness being actually prepared for Jesus’ Second Coming. Amen.
