Hindu Pundits often misrepresents Diwali as merely as festival of lights, as the celebrations of light over darkness, when it is in fact the worship of a fertility goddess.
This deception is propagated to deceive people into partaking of their goddess worship in such a way that their conscience would be pacified thus thy won’t feel guilty for idolatry. In addressing the issue of Diwali we shall only quote from Hindu literature from reputable Hindu scholars of Sanskrit, that these pundits will not be able to dismiss what is being said in this tract by claims that we are using wrong translations of the Hindu scriptures or that we are misrepresenting what the scriptures say.
The fact that Diwali is goddess worship is clearly represented by this Hindu scholar, Dr B.K Chaturvedi. The Bali said: ‘Lord, although I have lost everything to you my request is only this, that for the first three days the whole earth may come again under rule. These three days and the thirteenth day, the fourteenth day and the fifteenth day of dark fortnight of the month Karitk’ (Two days before Diwali day and the Diwali day itself). Lord Vishnu responded with ‘so be it’ but asked. Why have you chosen these three days. Bali replied. These three days are devoted to goddess Lakshmi. I want these three days to be spent in total worship of goddess. People should lights lamp, invoke the goddess with full ritual…. Whosoever worship Lakshmi during these three days shall never be a victim of any adversity and privation.” Lakshmi, pp42-43. “Thus, O Dharmaraja, Lord Krishna advised Yaddhishthir, Your brothers must worship the goddess with full ritual during these days. I am sure with the goddess’s grace you shall get back your lost kingdom” Lskdhmi, p43.
“As mentioned earlier, Diwali or Divali as the day (or nigh) of goddess Lakshmi’s special worship. Ibid pg. 63. Thus what occurs on Diwali is the worship of goddess of fertility as in ancient times. Lakshmi is the Indian counterpart of this pagan goddess that was worshipped all over the world before Christianity took over. In different countries of the world we come across a goddess being worshipped as the corn mother or deity of vegetation and fertility. The corn mother of Egypt is Isis who wears a wreath of corn and in Rome Ceres is worshipped as the spirit of corn. In Greece Demeter and Kore are worshipped as vegetation deity.” Dr Upendra Nath Dhal, Goddess Lakshmi. P 124 Like Demeter or Isis, Lakshmi is contended as the goddess of corn and is adored by the agricultural community… Ibid, p.128
In the Bible the one and only true and living God Jer 10:10 “ But the Lord is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.” Strictly condemned the worship of this goddess whom the Isralelites picked up from the surrounding nations 1 Kings 11:4-5
4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.
5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.
Jer 44:17-20
17 But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.
18 But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.
19 And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?
Jer 44:23
23 Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day.
Acts 19:26-27
26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:
27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth
Acts 19:35
35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?
