When the bible in 1John 1:8,10 tells us a person who says he is without sin is a liar it is in the context of 1John 1:9 where the person admits or confesses they have sin that they may receive forgiveness or cleansing, which makes the person free of the idol values of the mind that caused them to sin. Thus when a person says he is without sin or sinfree we must firstly ask if the person is speaking before forgiveness or after forgiveness. If they say they are without sin before forgiveness they lie and the truth is not in them, if a person say they have no sin after forgiveness/cleansing they are truthful and God's word is in them. Afterall John 15:3 tells us we are clean by the word, so when the word is you, you are sinfree.
1John 1:8-10
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
P.S Note: Forgiveness is cleansing.
