Salvation (Justification) or the born again experience or the converted experience is lost when one sins. (Edited version)
The scriptures below show that the old man (which is the unrenewed or the carnally minded man), is crucified when one is converted or born again into sinfreeness (Rom.6:6-7,Gal.5:24-25, Eph.2:1-3) and is built again when one sins (Gal.2:17-18). The scriptures below also show that this conversion in the person is salvation, thus showing salvation or the born again experience is lost when one sins. This further shows that salvation is to be made free from sin and not a crediting of righteousness to an account in heaven. In fact Eph.4:22-24 tells us the putting off the old man is replaced in the mind by the new man which after God is created in Righteousness and true holiness.
Rom.6:6,7
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed ("freed" better translated justified - Greek - diakioo) from sin.
The above is the born again experience explained for it is in the context of Romans 6:17-18 and I quote: "17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness."
Consider these other text:
Gal.5:24-25
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Eph.2:1-3, & 8
1 And you hath he quickened (made alive spiritually) who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: (Note: sinfulness is past tense for the quickened person)
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Note: Saving by grace through faith mentioned in verse 8 is in the context of the quickening or being brought to life from being dead in trespasses and sins as mentioned in verse one to three. Thus salvation is the transformative work of God in making man sinfree. This being the context is confirmed two verses down in Eph.2:10, I qoute: " 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." Thus we see here we are his workmanship unto good works which is being made sinfree to do works of sinfreeness. However this experience can be lost by sin.
The following account is one in which Peter had reverted to the experience of the old man, or the carnal mind after abiding in the born-again experience.
Gal.2:17-18
17 But if, while we seek to be JUSTIFIED by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. Note: the things which are destroyed was mentioned above, which is the old man or unregenerated man with his carnal mind and his affections and lust.
Thus what is gained in conversion or in being born again can be lost by the act of sinning. However in the false gospel salvation is not lost by sin, as salvation in the false gospel is not an internal work, it is presented as Righteousness being placed in an account or credited to an account, so the person is kept saved without having to obtain sinfreeness and maintain sinfreeness. This encourages one to be an irresponsible careless "Christian".
