Someone presented the following quote to prove Laodicea is God's church:
" the message to the church of the Laodiceans is a startling denunciation, and is applicable to the people of God at the present time.... FH 138.2
People of God in the quote above is referring to professed Adventist who need to be converted or be made holy and become true Adventist when they repent, then would they be part of Philadelphia. Remember Rom.8:9 tells us if one has not the Spirit of Christ they are none of His so there is a context in which Laodicea is not the people of God. For instance though Israel represented the people of God in their profession it is written "they are not all Israel (saints) which are of Israel - Rom.9:6 it is the same as saying they are not all Adventist which are of Adventism. Or they are not all the people of God (godly) who are of the people of God. One must understand there is being a Jew or an Israelite or an Adventist or a people of God in the heart spiritually in holiness and there is being the people of God as a visible body with a profession of following God. The quote you gave speaks of the later. It is addressed to people of God in general.
Consider the texts below where the people of God refer to the converted and holy
2Cor.6:16-18
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Heb.8:10
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.
These are the people of God that God is coming back for.
