"“A company was presented before me under the name of Seventh-Day Adventist, who were advising that the banner or sign which makes us a distinctive people should not be held out so strikingly, for they claimed it was not the best policy in securing success to our institutions. This distinctive banner is to be bourne though the world to the close of probation.
When the people of God accept and exalt a spurious Sabbath and turn away from obedience and loyalty to God, they will reach the point that was reached by the people in the days of Christ … Shall anyone chose to hide his banner, to relax his devotion? Shall the people who God has honored and blessed and prospered, refuse to bear testimony on behalf of God’s memorial at the very time when such a testimony should be bourne? Shall not the commandments of God be more highly esteemed when men pour contempt upon the law of God?” Selected Messages Bk.2 pg. 385
The Lord has a controversy with his professed people in these last days. In this controversy men in
responsible positions will take a course directly opposite to that pursued by Nehemiah. They will not only ignore and despise the Sabbath themselves, but they will tyr to keep it from others by burying it beneath the rubbish of custom and tradition. In churches and in large gatherings in the open air, ministers will urge upon the people the necessity of keeping the first day of the week. There will be calamities on sea and land: and these calamities will increase, one disaster following close upon the another; and the little band of conscientious Sabbath keepers will be pointed out as the ones who are bringing the wrath of God upon the world by the disregard of Sunday.” (RH.1884-03-18.008)
